Where did last year go? A statement that I have heard almost every day as we’ve reached the end of the year. But reflecting back on the year, we’ve had a really good one. Normally gratitude comes at the end, but everything we’ve achieved this year – from our various fundraising activities to winning two awards at The Hertfordshire Business Awards – could not have been possible without the help of our staff, customers and suppliers, so it’s just right to put it out there first. Here’s a few highlights of the year:

Clients.

Clients such as Five Guys, Cote and Nando’s aggressively expanded across the UK in 2016, but we have also worked with restaurant groups such as Dishoom, Franco Manca and Bill’s. We are delighted to be able to continue to have a strong relationship with longstanding clients such as Byron, Jamie’s Italian and GBK to help with expansion plans as well as help maintain existing restaurants. In 2017, we have some exciting sites coming up and can’t wait to be a part of new restaurant ventures entering the UK and EU market too.

Fundraising.

This year we’ve supported three charities: Help for Heroes, Clink and Isabel Hospice. Throughout the year we held various fundraising activities such as a string of successful bake sales and monthly raffles as well as various physically challenging events. Here’s a breakdown of how much money we’ve raised:

  • Bake sales and raffle (all three charities): £2,076.00
  • Snowdon walk: £435.00
  • Tough Mudder : £1,115.00
  • Santa Run: £6,440.00

We also took part in Run your ASK off in aid of Great Ormond Street Children Charity (GOSHCC). The Hyperventilators – David Chapman, Nigel Atkinson and Stuart Savigar- raised a staggering £7,570.00.

Staff days.

Here at CVL it can get a bit stressful as we’re in a very reactive industry. But staff relationship building is something that is very important to us, that’s why we dedicate days just to go out and let our hair down and have a good time. My personal favourite is our bowling night out. It’s great to have a bit of healthy competition between all teams followed by food and booze.

Food.

Being in the restaurant industry I think it’s safe to say that we have a love for food here at Chapman’s. Earlier this year we opened Didster’s Diner – our first on site canteen – serving breakfast and lunch for all of our staff. The last Friday of every month we also hold an afternoon tea to get everyone from around the business together to take a break from the working day.

The Hertfordshire Business Awards.

One of our biggest achievements in 2016 was winning the ‘Large Business of the Year’ award (sponsored by Biz4Biz) and the ‘Company of the Year’ (sponsored by KPMG) at The Hertfordshire Business Awards.

Anthony Chapman, Managing Director of Chapman Ventilation, said:

“We are honoured and delighted to have been recognised with these awards. Even though my brother and I are fully involved in the business and work every day to make it better, we can only do that because of the fantastic people who work for us and deliver in every area of the business. We were recognised by the judges for our commitment to our people and that makes it all worthwhile. We also know that we would not be where we are today if it were not for the foundations that were laid down by our parents in starting Chapman Ventilation almost 50 years ago”.
