Today marks International Women’s Day, and it provides the perfect opportunity to put the spotlight on the fantastic ladies who work at Chapman Ventilation.
The HVAC industry is notoriously male dominated, but here at Chapman Ventilation we are breaking boundaries.
A fifth of our workforce are women, and they hold a wide variety of roles around the business. The positions include Finance Management Accountant and Finance Administrator, Production Office Manager, Executive Assistant, Project Administrator, HR Assistant and Maintenance Administrator.
We also have female representation in the Senior Management Team. Laura, Head of HR, has worked at Chapman Ventilation for eight years. Having joined the company as a HR Administrator, Laura gained numerous qualifications and a huge amount of work experience to enable her progression to the Senior Management Team. Laura said, “I have worked in HR for many years and enjoy supporting our staff and seeing them grow and develop. Being a member of the Senior Management Team provides me with the unique opportunity to have a complete overview of the business. I work with the rest of the leadership team to create a dynamic strategy that puts the development of our staff and a progressive workplace culture, at the forefront.”
Both Laura and Donna, HR Assistant, recently attended the Women in Leadership conference on 3rd March. The event was organised by Hertfordshire Chamber of Commerce and held at Sopwell House, St Albans. The conference provided delegates with a great opportunity to hear from inspirational female keynote speakers about their career path and experiences as women in business. Donna said “It was great to attend this conference again. We have heard some really useful information and received some great advice that we will be able to apply in the office to support the women working at Chapman Ventilation.”
Our newest recruit is Phoebe, a Production Administrator who joined in January 2023.
“After studying Criminology at University I wanted to get some work experience under my belt before potentially pursuing a career in the Police. The Production Administrator job appealed to me as I loved the variety of tasks detailed in the role profile. When I started at Chapman Ventilation, I spent the first 2 weeks working in the factory so that I could experience creating products and gain a clear understanding of the lead times that are required to process orders correctly. I produced a canopy from scratch, and it is now fitted in a restaurant in Dubai! The process began in the office, and I helped to design the canopy. Next, I took the design into the factory and worked with the laser and press before spending 2 days assembling it. I then built a spotlight and fan and attached them both. Finally, the canopy was complete and I organised delivery to Dubai! I thoroughly enjoyed my induction in the factory and loved learning how to use the different machinery. It has given me great exposure to the production side of our business which has been invaluable as I started my new job. I am enjoying working with different departments across the business, and having a collective purpose to provide our clients with the best products and service.”
Chapman Ventilation love to celebrate the achievements of our team! We support our stuff with their further education and actively encourage our team to seek professional successes and progress their careers.
Danielle, a Finance Administrator, is currently studying for her AAT Level 4 qualification.
“I joined Chapman Ventilation in June 2019 and having previously been a chef, really enjoyed the new challenge of working in finance. Our Finance Director recognised my interest and suggested that Chapman Ventilation could pay for me to begin a course if I would like to pursue a career in Finance. I was very happy to begin studying, and in September 2020 I started the Level 2 AAT Bookkeeping course. Two and a half years later, I am now a qualified Bookkeeper and have just started studying Level 4 AAT. I hope to complete the course in Spring 2024 and to qualify as an Accounting Technician. I study most evenings and at the weekend, and am very lucky to have a supportive team at work who I can ask for help and advice with the course.”
Chapman Ventilation are proud to be an inclusive business. We now employ more working mothers than ever and do our utmost to support flexible working, as we appreciate the work and family balance that is required.
As a business, we look forward to further championing the women in our team. We will continue supporting their learning and development and celebrating achievements in the workplace.
