A virtual ceremony was held on the 25th January to celebrate the 2021 Michelin Guide for Great Britain and Ireland. The most prestigious awards – three Michelin stars – went to Hélène Darroze at the Connaught and Core by Clare Smyth.
In total, 22 restaurants were awarded new star ratings. The 2021 Guide showcases more variety than ever before, with Chef Andrew Wong’s restaurant A Wong becoming the first Chinese restaurant in the UK to be awarded 2*. A Wong is located in Victoria, offering a la carte options as well as a 10-course ‘Taste of China’ tasting menu. Two other restaurants were upgraded to 2*: De Terra in Bethnal Green and Restaurant Story in Southwark. We were lucky enough to work with Tom Sellers on Restaurant Story when it opened in 2013. This year’s awards ceremony also saw the first Michelin green stars awarded: a new honour recognising sustainability in gastronomy. Winners of green stars include L’Enclume in Cartmel, Cumbria and Petersham Nurseries Cafe, Richmond.
It is an incredibly challenging time for all of those in the hospitality community, though the publishing of the 2021 Michelin Guide is definitely getting us excited to start eating out again! Watch the full awards ceremony here.
