OMA

Sector: Greek
Details: Taverna serving Greek small plates
Location: Borough Market, London

Located in Borough Market, OMA is an elegant Greek restaurant created by David Carter, founder of Smokestak and Manteca, and chef Jorge Paredes, previously of Sabor. The décor, furnishings and tableware are all in keeping with the Greek isles which compliments the Aegean menu perfectly.

Hidden beneath the railway bridge on Bedale Street, OMA contains a central hearth and is where chefs can be seen cooking over a live fire grill. The restaurant also contains a crudo bar, which ties in nicely with the meaning of the restaurants name which is “raw”.

Directly below OMA is its counterpart AGORA, a souvla bar that takes its inspiration from the food markets in Athens. The two restaurants together provide a superb Greek dining destination in London’s Borough Market.

"This was a challenging project but made enjoyable by working with some familiar faces, in a brilliant location. The fire grill is a fantastic feature in this restaurant. "

Originally established in 1756, Borough Market has transformed from a wholesale market to a buzzing area containing a wide variety of food stalls, green grocers, shops and bars that is visited by people from around the world.

History in the making

Borough Market speaks for itself; it is a fantastically old site, bustling with life and over 1000 years of history.

But being in such a historical location means that space is at a premium and there are numerous restrictions to adhere to.

There were several aspects of the restaurant that required challenging installations but the outcome was successful and it proved a rewarding project to be part of.
